Tune-Ups, Spark Plugs, Coils & Wires in Olathe, KS
Spark plugs, coils, and wires — for rough idle, misfires, and lost fuel economy.
A modern tune-up is mostly ignition work: spark plugs, coils, and wires. Plugs wear their electrodes down over tens of thousands of miles, the gap widens, and the coil has to work harder to jump it — which is why worn plugs eventually take coils with them. Replacing them on schedule is far cheaper than replacing them after a failure.
Symptoms of a tired ignition system are easy to live with until they aren't: a rough or shaky idle, a stumble when you accelerate onto I-35, hard starting on cold Kansas mornings, a flashing check engine light, or fuel economy that has quietly dropped a few miles per gallon. Any of those is worth a look.
We replace spark plugs with the correct heat range and gap for your engine, replace coils and ignition wires where testing shows they're failing, and check the surrounding causes — vacuum leaks, dirty injectors, a clogged filter — that produce identical symptoms. Then we clear the codes and confirm the fix on a road test rather than handing you the keys and hoping.
On many of today's engines the plugs sit under the intake or require removing covers and coils individually, so this is work worth doing properly with the right torque specs and anti-seize practice. We do it in-house, we quote it first, and we tell you when your plugs still have life left in them.
