Differentials and transfer cases are the parts of the drivetrain nobody thinks about until they whine, and they run on a fluid that almost nobody remembers to change. Gear oil shears down and picks up metal over time; once the film strength is gone, the ring and pinion wear quickly and what was a routine fluid service becomes a rebuild. We perform differential service and transfer case service on schedule so that never happens.

If you tow a trailer, haul loads, drive gravel roads, or use four-wheel drive through Kansas winters, your service interval is shorter than the one written for easy-duty use. Heat and load are what break gear oil down, and a truck that works for a living generates plenty of both.

Symptoms we diagnose include a whine or howl that changes with vehicle speed, a rumbling or clunking from under the vehicle, difficulty engaging or disengaging four-wheel drive, a binding feel in turns, and gear oil seeping from a pinion seal or cover. Catching these early usually keeps the repair to a seal, a bearing, or a fluid change.

We drain and refill differentials and transfer cases with the correct specification fluid — including limited-slip additive where the axle requires it — reseal covers properly, and inspect the surrounding driveshafts, U-joints, and mounts while the vehicle is up. Call us with your year, make, model, and drivetrain and we'll tell you what yours needs.
